ANKARA (AA) - The second-tier UEFA Europa League's Round of 16 draw was made in Switzerland's Nyon on Friday as Türkiye's Fenerbahce were drawn against familiar opponents Sevilla from Spain.
Sevilla won the Europa League title for a record six times in history (2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020). The Spanish La Liga club won all the Europa League finals that they appeared.
In the 2007-08 UEFA Champions League, Fenerbahce have spent a dream season as they finished the group stage in the second position after Inter Milan to bag the last 16 ticket.
The Istanbul club then faced Sevilla in the Champions League Round of 16, and after an aggregate score 5-5, Alex-led Fenerbahce fought to beat their Spanish opponents 3-2 on a dramatic penalty shootout at Seville's Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
This season Fenerbahce and Sevilla will meet against each other to battle for a Europa League quarterfinal ticket.
Fenerbahce will visit Sevilla on March 9 before the second leg in Istanbul on March 16.
