ISTANBUL (AA) - Social media accounts associated with the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) have claimed that the organization’s ringleader, Fethullah Gulen, has died.
A post on "Herkulname," one of the social media accounts most frequently used by FETO’s leadership, claimed that Gulen had passed away.
Following the post on "Herkulname," similar claims began circulating on other social media accounts linked to the terrorist group.
Some individuals, relatives of Gulen and members close to the organization’s leadership, also alleged that the group's ringleader had died in their social media posts.
However, there have been no posts or statements from other known leaders of the organization addressing the claim.
Gulen had been living in the US state of Pennsylvania. Turkish leaders have long sought his extradition, but US judicial officials did not approve it.
FETO and its US-based ringleader Fethullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in Türkiye in which 252 people were killed and 2,734 wounded.
Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.
