ANKARA (AA) – The so-called “Mexico imam” of Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) was remanded in Turkey on Friday after he was arrested by Turkey’s intelligence body in an overseas operation, according to judicial sources.
Osman Karaca was arrested on Oct. 19 by Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization and brought to Turkey.
He was accused of “establishing and masterminding an armed terrorist organization.”
FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup on July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
