ROME (AA) - Students in Florence organized a protest Wednesday and set up tents to support Palestine in a bold display of solidarity.
The protest took place in San Marco Square, home to the rectorate building of the University of Florence.
Students gathered to demand an end to Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip and the genocide Tel Aviv is committing against Palestinians.
Students voiced opposition to the Israeli army's advance toward Rafah and urged the university to immediately terminate all scientific collaboration with Israel.
The protest saw the participation of 400 people, with students urging Italians to take a definitive stand against Israel's actions in Gaza.
Chants of "Free Palestine" resonated through the square as protesters held signs that read, "Stop the Genocide" and waved Palestinian flags.
In a bid to ensure their demands were met, a group of students began a tent encampment in the square following the protest.
Similar acts of support and solidarity for Palestine are occurring at universities across Italy, including in Rome, Milan, Naples, Bologna, Turin and Padua, indicating a growing movement among students nationwide.
