ISTANBUL (AA) – Demand for edible oil and flour in Germany has grown substantially since the beginning of the Russian war on Ukraine late February, official data revealed on Friday.
According to Destatis, Germany's statistical office, many retailers limited the sales of these items due to the high demand.
"The demand for edible oil, for instance, more than doubled (+123%) in Week 10 (7 to 13 March 2022) from nearly six months ago in September 2021," the statistical office said.
The demand for flour tripled (+206%) over the same period, it added.
Russia and Ukraine are critical providers of many food products including wheat, corn and sunflower seed.
The war in this region causes food shortage concerns globally.
