AFYONKARAHISAR, Turkey (AA) – Racing in western Turkey, Kiara Fontanesi on Tuesday won the second race of the MXGP of Afyon in the Women's Motocross World Championship (WMX).
Fontanesi of Italy won the second race with a time of 25:11.912 and grabbed 25-25 points in the two races in the Turkish city of Afyon.
Courtney Duncan of New Zealand placed second with 25:13.340, racking up 22-22 points, while Larissa Papaenmeier of Germany placed third in the second race with a time of 25:44.848.
Duncan still leads the championship classification table with 176 points, with Fortanesi close behind with 167 points.
Fontanesi told reporters that she is happy with her win, adding that she is unfamiliar with the Spanish track where the next stage of the championship will be held but she will work the same to win.
Duncan said she made some silly mistakes and that her opponent deserved to win.
There are two more legs to be held in the WMX in Spain and Trentino, Italy on Oct. 17 and 31, respectively.
