Football: Leaders in England, Italy still unbeaten

Liverpool and Inter dominate their leagues with flawless start, maintaining winning streak over weekend

ANKARA (AA) – Liverpool have maintained winning streak in the English Premier League after defeating Sheffield United 1-0 in an away match on Saturday.

Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum’s 70th-minute goal brought the victory to Liverpool in the match of the seventh week.

The Reds had their 16th consecutive Premier League win, earning seven victories this season. They topped the league with 21 points.

Manchester United drew with Arsenal 1-1 at the Old Trafford stadium on Monday.

Scott McTominay and Pierre Aubameyang were the scorers for their teams during the match.

Manchester City had an easy past against Everton with 3-1 in an away game on Saturday, pursuing the leaders Liverpool with five points behind them.

Leicester City hammered Newcastle 5-0 at home on Sunday as they stood at the third place with 14 points.

Arsenal and West Ham United had 12 points behind Leicester City.

In Italy’s Serie A, Inter remained at the top of the league with 18 points after they defeated Sampdoria 3-1 in an away match on Saturday.

Inter's summer signing Alexis Sanchez scored his first goal for Inter while Stefano Sensi and Roberto Gagliardiani found the net against Sampdoria.

Inter won their sixth consecutive match in Italy under the helm of Italian manager Antonio Conte.

Reigning champions Juventus beat Spal 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday while Napoli defeated Brescia 2-1 at home on Sunday.

Serie A leaders are followed by Juventus with 16 points, Atalanta with 13 points and Napoli with 12 points.
