ANKARA (AA) - English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur won their first match at their newly opened sumptuous stadium Wednesday, beating Crystal Palace 2-0.

The home team's South Korean winger Heung-Min Son went down in club history as the first player to score at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"There’s no place like home," Tottenham said on Twitter following their victory.

"I'm the happiest guy in the world!" Son said after the match.

According to British media, the cost to the club of the 62,062-seater stadium was £1 billion ($1.3 billion).

Founded in 1882, Tottenham -- nicknamed ‘Spurs’ -- had to leave their home of 118 years at White Hart Lane in 2017 when construction work on the new stadium began.

From 2017 to 2019, the team temporarily played at world-famous Wembley Stadium with 90,000 seats.
