ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish national football team and head coach Mircea Lucescu mutually terminated their contract, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on Monday.

In August 2017, Lucescu, 73, signed a two-year contract with a one-year option. He had previously coached Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Besiktas in early 2000s.

He had succeeded Fatih Terim who resigned in July 2017.

During his time as head coach, Turkey failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup that was held in Russia.
