ANKARA (AA) - Uruguay guaranteed themselves a place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup's Round 16 stage after beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the Group A match in Rostov-On-Don on Wednesday.
Uruguay took the lead in the 23rd minute when the team's star Luis Suarez put the ball into Saudi Arabian side's net.
Suarez scored the winning goal for Uruguay in his 100th appearance for his country.
Wednesday's victory made Uruguay qualify for the last 16 in the tournament.
In addition, this result in Rostov-On-Don means that World Cup hosts Russia are guaranteed to play in the next round. They will take on Uruguay on Monday in Samara to decide who will top the group.
After second matches in the group, Russia and Uruguay have six points each, but Russia top the section by goal difference.
Having lost their two matches, Saudi Arabia have been eliminated from the World Cup.
Egypt have also been eliminated from the World Cup after losing two matches in Group A.
