Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported on Friday that two foreign nationals, including a criminal gang ringleader wanted by an Interpol red notice, have been caught in Istanbul.
On social media, Yerlikaya said they will not allow national or international organized crime organizations, drug dealers, or gangs that disturb the peace of the public, no matter what size they are and whether they are on Interpol's wanted list or not, to roam free.
"British national Mohammed Zakir Miah, who is wanted on an Interpol red notice and is the ringleader of the organization that organizes drug distribution throughout Belgium, was caught in Buyukcekmece, Istanbul, while Chinese national Chen Xuefeng, who is wanted on an Interpol red notice in Vietnam for (causing people) serious injury, was apprehended in Bagcilar through Operation Cage-20," he said.
Saying that the two suspects were caught by the Istanbul anti-drug, intelligence, immigrant smuggling and border directorates in a joint effort, Yerlikaya said the extradition procedures for Chen to Vietnam have already been completed.
