ANKARA (AA) - Former Argentine football player Leopoldo Jacinto Luque died Monday, Argentina's football body said. He was 71.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed Luque’s death, expressing sadness over his passing in a statement on its website, and offered condolences to his relatives and loved ones.
Argentina's national news agency Telam said he died of cardiac arrest at a local hospital.
Luque was hospitalized at the beginning of the year for the novel coronavirus at the Cuyo Clinic in the city of Mendoza.
The former River Plate forward helped his native Argentina win the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
He scored 22 goals in 45 appearances for the national team.
In his club career, Luque won five Argentine league titles with River Plate.
