Huw Edwards, formerly the BBC's most senior news presenter, has pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent pictures of children, according to media reports on Wednesday.

He admitted to the offenses during a brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, according to a BBC report.

The charges involve 41 images shared on WhatsApp between 2020 and 2022.

According to the report, Edwards was charged with possessing seven category A images, the most serious classification, along with 12 category B and 22 category C images.

The Metropolitan Police clarified that these allegations were separate from other claims investigated last year.

A police spokesperson stated: "These allegations did not form part of the matter which was considered by police in July 2023.”

“They were investigated separately as a standalone case," the official added.

Edwards, who left the BBC in April, was once the corporation's highest-profile and best-paid news anchor, regularly presenting BBC One's Ten O'Clock News and major national events.

He was arrested in November 2023 and charged in June.
