ANKARA (AA) – Former Scotland and Rangers manager Walter Smith died on Tuesday at age 73.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the former Scotland national coach, and one of the most successful managers in Scottish football history, Walter Smith," the Scottish Football Association said on Twitter.
"The thoughts of everyone at the Scottish FA are with his friends and family at this time," it added.
FIFA on social media also offered its condolences to Smith's family and loved ones.
Smith won 10 Scottish Premiership titles with Rangers.
He also led Rangers to five Scottish Cups and six League Cups.
Additionally, Smith's men reached the 2008 UEFA Cup final but Rangers lost against Russia's Zenit 2-0 in Manchester.
He was a Scotland manager in 2004-2007.
