ANKARA (AA) – Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele said on Tuesday that he will retire from the game once his deal at the Chinese football club Guangzhou City ends in a year.
"... I haven't stopped yet. I still have a year on my contract left. But I can already share I will stop my career after this year is finished," the 34-year-old said on Instagram, and thanked for the "nice messages" that fans have sent to him.
Belgium's Dembele was a Tottenham midfielder from 2012 to 2019.
Dembele was the winner of the Dutch league title with AZ Alkmaar in 2009.
He left Tottenham for Guangzhou City in 2019.
During his football career, Dembele scored 62 goals and made 49 assists in 578 club appearances.
He scored five goals in 82 international caps for the Belgian national team.
