PARIS (AA) - The week in France ended with fatalities reaching a low point, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health.
A total of 63 fatalities were registered on Friday, a drop by 6 compared to Thursday. The total number of fatalities in hospital stood at 18,387 and the total in nursing homes is 10,327.
Since the start of the outbreak, the death toll in France rose to 28,714, with cases rising to some degree, to 149,668, an increase of 597 cases over the previous day.
The number of hospitalizations rose slightly on Friday with cases standing now at 14,695, a drop of 513 patients on the day before. Those in intensive care fell to 1,361, down by 68 patients over Thursday.
Despite the severity of the virus, most people experience mild symptoms and recover. Since the beginning of record-keeping for the disease, 67,803 people have recovered in France from the epidemic and have returned home.
After originating in China last December, COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, has spread to 188 countries and regions across the world.
The pandemic has killed just over 362,500 people worldwide, with total infections surpassing over 5.87 million, while more than 2.46 million people have recovered from the disease, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
