ISTANBUL (AA) - The French Rugby Federation has confirmed the suspension of Melvyn Jaminet from the national team over a racist social media post.
"Melvyn Jaminet has been sidelined with immediate effect and is leaving the France group currently present in Argentina," the federation said in a statement on Sunday. The French team played Argentina on Saturday and is due for another match this coming Saturday.
"An internal investigation is underway to shed light on the making of these extremely serious comments and to take appropriate measures."
In a video posted on his Instagram account on Sunday, Jaminet is heard saying: "The first Arab I come across, I'll throw him a headbutt."
He later deleted the post, but not before it drew a backlash.
Jaminet, 25, who plays for Toulon, made his France debut in 2021.
