PARIS (AA) - The French Senate has approved a bill that bans gender reassignment surgeries for children.
On Tuesday, the senate debated the bill, which also includes stricter controls on prescribing puberty blockers for children.
The bill, proposed by Senator Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio of the Republicans (LR) Party, was passed with 180 votes in favor and 136 against.
The bill stipulates that hormone treatments and surgeries for gender reassignment are prohibited for children under the age of 18.
For the bill to become law, it must also be approved by the National Assembly.
