ANKARA (AA) - British boxer Tyson Fury defeated his compatriot Dillian Whyte with a technical knockout to retain his WBC heavyweight title in a late Saturday bout at Wembley Stadium, London.

Nicknamed the Gypsy King, Fury, 33, landed a powerful uppercut that stunned Whyte in the round six in front of 94,000 spectators at Wembley.

Whyte fell down after the punch for a while but then stood up.

However, the referee decided that the 34-year-old was unable to carry on the match.

Fury, who turned professional in 2008, is still undefeated.

He has 32 wins, 23 of them with knockouts. Fury had a draw in a 2018 bout against US boxer Deontay Wilder.

After his win over Whyte, Fury vowed to stick to his retirement plans.

"I promised my lovely wife Paris that after the third fight with Deontay Wilder that would be it and I meant it. I then got offered to fight at Wembley and I thought I owed it to the fans to come here and fight.

"Now it's all done I have to be a man of my word... what a way to go out!," Fury said.
