Galatasaray's Argentine forward Mauro Icardi has faced a major knee injury, the Turkish football powerhouse confirmed on Friday.
In a statement, Galatasaray said that Icardi, 31, underwent an MRI scan to be diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damaged meniscus in his right knee.
Icardi was injured in Galatasaray's 3-2 home win over English club Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
The Istanbul club confirmed that surgery is planned for Icardi, who previously played for Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
Galatasaray regular Icardi is expected to be out for the 2024-25 season.
He won back-to-back Turkish Super Lig titles with Galatasaray in 2023 and 2024.
Icardi scored 61 goals in 87 matches for Galatasaray since 2022.
