ISTANBUL (AA) - US tennis player Coco Gauff has withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for the coronavirus.
"I am so disappointed to share the news that I have tested positive for COVID and won't be able to play in the Olympic Games in Tokyo," Gauff said on Instagram.
"It has always been a dream of mine to represent the USA at the Olympics, and I hope there will be many more chances for me to make this come true in the future," she added.
Gauff, who ranks No. 25 in the world, is the youngest player ranked in the top 100 by the Women's Tennis Association.
The 17-year-old advanced to the quarterfinals of this year's French Open.
The Tokyo 2020 Games, which were postponed last year due to COVID-19, will take place from July 23 to Aug. 8.
