Gaza media office calls for stopping Israel’s policy of starvation against Palestinians

Israel continues to prevent entry of basic commodities into northern Gaza, media office says

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Gaza’s government media office appealed to the international community on Tuesday to intervene to stop Israel’s policy of starvation against the territory’s population.

There are “continued signs of famine in northern Gaza as a result of the (Israeli) occupation's use of starvation as a tool of war," the media office said in a statement.

It said Israel has continued to prevent the entry of basic commodities such as sugar, oils, milk and wheat into the northern Gaza Strip.

“It is also restricting the entry of vegetables in quantities that make them expensive, leaving most citizens unable to buy them, let alone banning the entry of gas,” it added.

“This reality shows that famine in northern Gaza has become a certainty, and the indicators of malnutrition among all its residents are one of its signs,” the media office said.

It called on the international community to “take urgent action to stop the war of starvation” and address the needs of residents of northern Gaza.

“Every talk about Israeli facilities and an increase in the number of aid trucks into northern Gaza is a distortion of reality,” it added.

Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in the enclave.

More than 35,600 Palestinians have been killed, the vast majority of whom have been women and children, and nearly 79,900 others injured since last October following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.

More than seven months into the Israeli war, vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered it to ensure that its forces do not commit acts of genocide and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
