ISTANBUL (AA) - Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili met with Roberta Metsola, the head of the European Parliament.
In a Twitter post, Zourabichvili said: “Very fruitful conversation with Roberta Metsola on how to strengthen Georgia’s prospects for candidate status. I stressed the unwavering determination of the Georgian population on this EU path. We count on EU Parliament support.”
Inspired by Ukraine and Moldova’s request, Georgia presented their EU membership application on March 3, 2022.
While Kyiv and Chisinau were given official candidate status in June 2022, the EU Commission concluded that Georgia should be granted “the perspective to become a member” and recommended that Tbilisi be granted candidacy only after it met 12 conditions.
