ANKARA (AA) – German chemical and consumer goods firm Henkel on Tuesday announced it has decided to exit its business activities in Russia due to the war in Ukraine.

“The execution process is now being prepared. Henkel will work closely with its teams in Russia on the details to ensure an orderly process,” said the company, which is known for its laundry, home and beauty brands such as Persil, Vernel, Fa, Pritt, Dial and Purex.

CEO Carsten Knobel said in a statement that the company condemns “the Russian war against Ukraine and the violence against innocent civilians.”

“We are providing extensive support to our employees and the people in Ukraine and neighboring countries by offering financial donations as well as food and material donations,” he said.

“Many Henkel employees are also helping at the borders by distributing urgently needed goods or offering people from Ukraine a place to stay.”

Russia’s war on Ukraine, which began on Feb. 24, has led to thousands of deaths, millions of people being displaced, and a broad range of sanctions on Moscow, in particular by the EU and US.

It has also spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia, ranging from technology to automotive, energy, retail and various others sectors.
