German police attack journalists during protest

Behavior was 'unacceptable attack' on press freedom, says editor-in-chief at German News Agency

COLOGNE, Germany (AA) - German police attacked protestors in Dusseldorf with batons and beat two journalists on Saturday, according to the German News Agency, (DPA).

Police attacked a DPA photojournalist who was covering a protest against a state bill in North Rhine-Westphalia and hit the reporter with a baton several times.

The report also noted that police beat another journalist.

A criminal complaint was filed against the officer in question, according to the DPA.

DPA Editor-in-Chief Sven Gosmann described the police's behavior as an "unacceptable attack on the freedom of the press" and demanded the incident be fully clarified.
