COLOGNE (AA) - German police on Sunday launched an investigation into a suspected xenophobic motive after a 29-year-old man injured a youth by shooting arrows with a Tatar bow in Peine, Lower Saxony state of Germany.
According to a statement by the police, the 22-year-old injured youth was taken to the hospital for treatment following the attack on Saturday.
However, it was stated that his life was not in danger.
The perpetrator was immediately arrested by the police, the statement added.
The suspect had previously been diagnosed with a mental disorder.
However, due to his attire, general appearance, and behavior during this attack, there are suspicions that it may be an extremist right-wing and xenophobic-motivated assault, leading to the initiation of an investigation.
The police have requested assistance from eyewitnesses to shed light on the background of the incident.
