BERLIN (AA) - Police in Germany opened a probe after details of a possible trip by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Berlin were leaked, authorities said on Thursday.
In a statement, Berlin police said that they are investigating “suspected betrayal of state secrets” after a local newspaper published details "of a possible visit by a state president" quoting an alleged police source.
Zelenskyy’s foreign visits have been organized under great secrecy due to concerns about his safety, and they are not announced publicly in advance.
BZ, a German tabloid, reported on Wednesday that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy will travel to Germany for an official visit on May 13-14.
The report included many details about Zelenskyy’s program, such as the airport his plane would be landing on Saturday, and the hotel he will be staying during the planned two-day visit.
It said, after his official talks in Berlin, Zelenskyy is scheduled to fly by helicopter to the western city of Aachen and will attend a ceremony to receive the International Charlemagne Prize.
