German retail sales bounce back in September

Turnover of retail enterprises unexpectedly grow 0.9% month-on-month

ANKARA (AA) - Germany's retail sales bounced back in September on a monthly basis after contracting in August, according to Destatis data on Monday.

The real (price-adjusted) turnover of retail enterprises in Germany rose 0.9% month-on-month, following August's revised decline of 1.4%.

The figure has beaten market forecast of a 0.3% monthly decrease.

Turnover of petrol stations plummeted by 15.7% from a month ago in September, the largest decline since the start of the time series in 1994, it added.

Retail sales of food increased 2.4% and sales of textiles, clothing, shoes and leather rose 9.9%.

On a yearly basis, retail sales dropped 0.9% in September.

Compared to the same month last year, sales at petrol stations fell by 9.6%.
