BERLIN (AA) - The head of Germany's BND foreign intelligence agency has tested positive for coronavirus, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Bruno Kahl tested positive for COVID-19 and placed himself in home quarantine, a BND spokesperson said.
The 59-year-old was vaccinated but had a breakthrough infection, though his general condition was good, according to the agency.
Germany reported more than 50,000 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, marking the highest single-day count since the pandemic began early last year.
Authorities are considering imposing stricter measures beginning next week to stem further spread of the virus.
