Germany, allies will not accept ‘Russian-dictated’ peace plan: Chancellor

Berlin will continue to take political, economic and military measures to achieve cease-fire, diplomatic solution to war, says Olaf Scholz

BERLIN (AA) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday promised continued support for Ukraine, including heavy weapons, to put more pressure on Russia to stop the war.

He made the remarks while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“For the first time ever, Germany is supplying arms to a war zone,” he told the participants.

“One thing is clear. Russian President (Vladimir) Putin will seriously negotiate a peace only when he realizes that he cannot break Ukraine’s defenses. And that is why we're supporting Ukraine, in close coordination with our partners, and allies,” he said.

Scholz said that Germany will continue to take political, economic and military measures, in order to achieve a cease-fire and a diplomatic solution to the war. But he underlined that they will not accept a peace plan which will be “dictated by Russia.”

“We have to make it clear to Putin that there will be no dictated peace. Ukraine will not accept that, and neither will we,” he stressed.
