BERLIN (AA) - Germany on Wednesday summoned North Korea's chargé d'affaires to the Foreign Ministry following reports that Pyongyang has sent troops to support Russia’s war in Ukraine that continues since 2022.
The Foreign Ministry said on X that Germany’s position and concerns were conveyed to the North Korean diplomat.
“The Federal Foreign Office summoned the North Korean chargé d’affaires today. Support for Russia’s war of aggression also threatens Germany’s security and the European peace order,” the ministry said.
“If the reports about Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea ( DPRK) soldiers in Ukraine are true and the DPRK is supporting Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine with troops, this development would be extremely serious and a violation of international law.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed on Tuesday that recent intelligence reports indicate North Korea is preparing two military brigades to support Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine.
“In particular, we have information that two units of military personnel from North Korea are being trained – potentially even two brigades of 6,000 people each,” Zelenskyy said in an evening video address.
