BERLIN (AA) - Leaders and top diplomats from over 60 countries will attend next week’s Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin, German officials said on Friday.
The two-day conference, which will begin on Tuesday, will focus on mobilizing international support for Ukraine's economic stabilization, war recovery, and reforms for EU membership.
“Together with numerous partners from politics, business, civil society and municipalities, we want to use the Ukraine Recovery Conference to do everything we can to support Ukraine on its path of reform and reconstruction,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said in a statement.
“We continue to provide Ukraine with extensive support: economic, humanitarian, and political assistance, as well as delivering urgently needed weapons. We are making every possible effort so that Ukraine can soon take a seat at the table of the European Union,” she added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit Berlin next week, and speak at the opening session of the conference, together with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski will also attend the conference.
The German Foreign Ministry said the conference will bring together over 2,000 participants from politics, business, civil society, and municipalities, and the particular focus will be on the role of the private sector in the recovery process.
“Over 600 representatives from Ukrainian, German and international companies in sectors such as energy, healthcare, logistics, and arms, alongside representatives from municipalities and civil society, will present their work during the event,” the ministry said in a statement.
“For the first time, the Ukraine Recovery Conference will put an emphasis on social and societal recovery – addressing areas such as education, health and participation – and on the recovery of municipalities and regions. To ensure Ukraine’s swift accession to the EU, emphasis is also being put on the necessary reforms in Ukraine,” the statement said.
