BERLIN (AA) – Germany will transfer a third Patriot system and additional weapons to Ukraine in the coming weeks, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced on Tuesday.
Addressing the Ukraine Recovery Conference, Scholz said Germany has already delivered or earmarked €28 billion ($30 billion) worth of weapons to Ukraine and will continue to support Kyiv’s defense.
“What the Ukrainian army most urgently needs right now is ammunition and weapons, especially for air defense. That is why we will be supplying Ukraine with a third Patriot air defense system, as well as IRIS-T SLM air defense systems, Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, missiles and artillery ammunition,” Scholz said.
He noted that these air defense systems and weapons will be delivered to Ukraine within the next couple of weeks and months.
Scholz also called on Western allies to look into their inventories and provide more air defense systems to Ukraine in the face of increased Russian attacks on economic and energy infrastructure.
“I would like to ask everyone here today: Support our initiative to strengthen Ukraine's air defense with everything you can. Because the best reconstruction is the one that doesn't have to take place at all,” he said.
Leaders and top diplomats from over 60 countries are attending the two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin, which aims to mobilize international support for Ukraine's economic stabilization, war recovery, and reforms for EU membership.
