ISTANBUL (AA) - Germany's annual inflation rate was 2.2% in April, the same level as in March, Destatis announced on Tuesday.

It was 2.5% in February 2024, the federal statistical authority recalled.

Ruth Brand, the head of Destatis, said the rate of inflation has been below 3% since the start of the year.

"Energy and food prices, in particular, have had a dampening effect on the inflation rate since January 2024," she added.

Brand noted: "However, core inflation – measured as the change in the consumer price index excluding food and energy – has been higher than overall inflation since the beginning of the year."

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up by 0.5% in April.
