Germany's industrial production drops in September

Production figures 9.5% lower than February 2020, the month before pandemic measures in Germany, says statistical authority

ISTANBUL (AA) - Germany's industrial production slipped 1% year-on-year in September, the country's statistical authority said on Friday.

Production was also down 1.1% on a monthly basis, Destatis said in a press release.

"Compared with February 2020, the month before restrictions were imposed due to the corona pandemic in Germany, production in September 2021 was 9.5% lower in seasonally and calendar-adjusted terms," it added.

Month-on-month in September, while there were declines in the production of capital goods (2.8%) and intermediate goods (1.1%), the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers as well as consumer goods posted increases of 2.1% and 0.2%, respectively.

"Outside industry, energy production was up by 1.0% in September on the previous month and the production in construction increased by 1.1%," it added.

In August, the production fell 3.5% on a monthly basis.
