ANKARA (AA) - Global crude steel output reached 155 million tons in January, down 6.1% from the same month last year, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) on Tuesday.
The world's number one steel producer China saw an 11.2% annual decline in January's figure of 81.7 million tons.
Other major steel producing countries posted mixed figures as India produced 10.8 million tons (up 4.7%), Japan 7.8 million tons (down 2.1%) and the US 7.3 million tons (up 4.2%).
Turkiye, the world's eighth-largest crude steel producer, saw a 7.8% drop in crude steel production last month to 3.2 million tons.
The World Steel Association is a prominent industry group, with its members representing around 85% of global steel production with more than 160 steel producers.
