ATHENS (AA) – Greece announced the closure of over 130 military camps across the country, local media reported on Thursday.

Defending the plan to close 137 camps by 2025, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said: “It makes no sense for us to have more military camps than the US,” according to AMNA news agency.

Presenting the new structure of the armed forces to the Greek Parliament’s Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs, the minister said: “We will abolish over 30 formations and consolidate units to reinforce firepower.”

Drawing attention to the increasing importance of drones in future warfare, Dendias revealed that every unit of the Greek Army will have an anti-drone capability and the ability to fly drones.

Moreover, he emphasized the need for the Greek Armed Forces to have both offensive and defensive cyberwarfare capabilities.

Dendias also stressed that it is of utmost importance for the country to have and sustain a strong navy and air force.
