Greece looks to sell 18 decommissioned Mirage 2000 jets to India

Deal would likely bring more political benefits more than economic ones, says local media

ATHENS (AA) – Greece is looking to sell 18 of its French-made Mirage 2000 jets which it de-commissioned in 2022 to India, local media reported on Wednesday.

“The Greek Air Force is looking into the possibility of the fighters’ sale to India, a suggestion which both the Defense Ministry and the prime minister’s office are aware of,” said daily Kathimerini.

It added that Greece and India are nearly ready to finalize a deal and are not ruling out the possibility that the sale could be brought up by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a future visit to New Delhi.

According to the daily, the Greek Air Force has low expectations for the sale price of the jets, a few million euro at best, as they are not in very good condition.

In light of this, the decision to sell the decommissioned Mirages is expected to have more political benefits than economic ones, it added.
