ATHENS (AA) – A court on the Greek island of Lesvos found 16 humanitarian workers with the now defunct non-governmental organization Emergency Response Centre International (ECRI) innocent of spying, local media reported Tuesday.

The misdemeanors appeals court ruled that there were no facts in their testimonies proving the charge of spying, the state-run AMNA news agency reported.

The workers were originally accused of forming a criminal organization, spying and migrant trafficking from Türkiye-Greek territory during a migrant flow in 2018.

In the process, the charges changed to spying at the misdemeanor level.

However, the charge of forming a criminal organization will be tried at a criminal court
