ATHENS (AA) – The Greek prime minister on Monday expressed growing concern over the protection of civilians in Gaza, as Israel intensifies its attacks on the enclave.
Discussing the latest developments in the Middle East and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a phone call, Kyriakos Mitsotakis also emphasized the need for humanitarian pauses and a continuous flow of necessary humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
“The Prime minister reiterated Greece’s position on condemning Hamas terrorism and Israel's right to self-defense,” the statement said.
At least 10,022 Palestinians, including 4,800 children and 2,550 women, have been killed in the Israeli bombardments in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli death toll is nearly 1,600, according to official figures.
Besides the large number of casualties and massive displacements, basic supplies are running low for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.
Thousands took to the streets in many countries to express support for Palestine, while some of the protests are banned in France.
