Gunmen abduct 4 nuns in Nigeria

Nuns were returning from burial rite

LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - Four Catholic nuns have been abducted in Nigeria’s oil-rich Delta State, police said on Saturday.

The nuns were returning from a burial rite when some gunmen attacked their vehicle.

“We have a report that four nuns were kidnapped somewhere around around Railway Line in Agbor town. The reverend sisters were from the Catholic Order of the Missionary of Martha and Mary (MMM) under the Issele-Uku Diocese in Agbor town in Ika South Local Government Area of the state,” Delta police chief Mustafa Mustafa said.

“We have since launched rescue operation to not only rescue the victims but to also apprehend the criminals behind the kidnapping.”

Mustapha said no arrests have been made.

Local broadcaster Channels quoted a source at the church as saying two other nuns were shot in the leg when the gunmen attacked the vehicle in which they traveling.
