ANKARA (AA) - A total of eight people, including six female students, have been kidnaped from a boarding public school in Nigeria’s northwest Kaduna province, Nigerian police confirmed on Thursday.
Yakubu Sabi, a police spokesman for Kaduna province, was quoted by local media as saying the eight people included two teachers and six female students.
"Some armed men gained entry into the Engravers College, a boarding Secondary School in a remote area in Kaduna State, and took away two staff of the college and six female students to an unknown destination," Sabo said in a statement.
He said the police mobilized combined teams of anti-kidnapping squad and special force to comb the area.
He asked school authorities to remain in touch with the police to ensure security in the school premises.
Of late, kidnapping cases have been on the rise in Nigeria. Early September, three girls were abducted by some gun men in a school in Lagos, Nigerian commercial city. They were rescued a week later.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in an address to mark nation's Independence Day on Tuesday, had promised to step up efforts against corruption and insecurity.
