ISTANBUL (AA) - Gunmen attacked a synagogue in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, killing a police officer and injuring six people, TASS news agency reported on Sunday.
Simultaneously, local media sources indicated that an Orthodox church in the same region came under attack.
The attackers reportedly used automatic weapons during the assault on the synagogue.
The synagogue and a police car were engulfed in flames following the incident, according to local media reports.
In response to the attacks, authorities have imposed security cordons in the cities of Makhachkala and Derbent, intensifying measures in the affected areas.
