MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AA) - Gunmen killed three people and kidnapped 15 students and four staff in an attack on a college in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara state.
Mohammed Shehu, a police spokesman, in a statement Monday said the gunmen stormed the Zamfara State College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura around midnight on Monday and opened fire on unarmed security guards to break into the college
"Unfortunately, a police inspector and two other civilian guards lost their lives, while 15 students and four staff were abducted by the bandits," said Shehu.
Shehu said three of the four staff abducted by the gunmen were later rescued by police special forces.
He said the police chief in the state visited the scene of the attack and received briefings from the head of the college.
The college attack was the latest in a series of school abductions in the country’s northern region since January.
