Hakan Ates steps down as DenizBank CEO

Recep Bastug to take over as new CEO of DenizBank as of Jan 1, 2025

ANKARA (AA) – Emirates NBD has announced a leadership transition at DenizBank, with Hakan Ates stepping down as CEO after 27 years of service.

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, Recep Bastug will take over as the new CEO of DenizBank.

Ates, who has been with DenizBank since its inception in 1997, will continue his association with the institution as a member of the Board of Directors.

During his tenure, Ates played a pivotal role in shaping DenizBank into one of Türkiye's leading financial institutions, known for its digital banking innovations and significant contributions to the financial sector.

Bastug, a 35-year banking industry veteran, has previously served as CEO of Garanti BBVA, Türkiye’s second-largest private bank.

His leadership at Garanti BBVA was marked by steering the institution through challenging macroeconomic conditions and competitive landscapes.
