Hamas calls power outage at Indonesian Hospital 'crime against humanity'

Palestinian group warns against neglecting fuel crisis, as it amounts to 'death sentence’ for all the wounded and patients at hospitals

GAZA, Palestine (AA) - The Palestinian group Hamas said Tuesday that a power outage at the Indonesian Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip due to a fuel shortage is a “crime against humanity” and called on Arab and Muslim countries and the UN to take the necessary steps to address the crisis.

In a statement published in the Jerusalem Post newspaper, Hamas said it considered the power outages as a result of Israel’s ongoing aggression against Gaza since Oct. 7 "a disgrace for the countries that turn a blind eye or joined the occupation in its aggression and genocide committed against our people and unarmed civilians."

The group warned against "the consequences of neglecting the fuel crisis, as it brings a death sentence to all the wounded and patients at hospitals."

The Indonesian Hospital in Gaza was put out of service as its vital facilities were disrupted on Monday as a result of the power outage, according to medical sources.

The Health Ministry in Gaza warned early Tuesday that electric generators at all hospitals will cease functioning within the next 48 hours due to a fuel shortage.

“We have less than 48 hours before all electric generators in hospitals run out of fuel,” ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra said in a brief statement on Telegram.

He added that the immediate needs of hospitals must be prioritized in terms of aid distribution, urging the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to push for allowing supplies of fuel and blood units to support the health sector in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Videos circulating online showed medical teams at the hospital receiving patients carried by ambulance personnel while using flashlights.
