Hamas says 10 Israeli soldiers killed, injured in northern Gaza ambush

Hamas says it detonated house in Jabalia as 10 Israeli soldiers moved in

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – The Palestinian resistance group Hamas claimed Tuesday to have killed and injured 10 Israeli soldiers in an ambush in the northern Gaza town of Jabalia.

The group’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, said its fighters detonated a house in Al-Qasaseeb area as Israeli soldiers moved into the building.

It confirmed that the blast left 10 Israeli soldiers dead and injured.

There was no confirmation yet from the Israeli army.

The army said early Tuesday that four soldiers were killed in fighting in the northern Gaza Strip a day earlier.

At least 787 Israeli soldiers have been killed since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict last year, according to military figures.

The Israeli army has continued a deadly onslaught in northern Gaza since Oct. 5 to allegedly prevent Hamas from regrouping amid a suffocating siege on the area. Palestinians, however, accuse Israel of seeking to occupy the area and forcibly displace its residents.

More than 1,500 people have been killed in northern Gaza since the offensive began, according to the Health Ministry.

The onslaught was the latest episode in a brutal Israeli war on the Gaza Strip since a Hamas attack last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.

Over 43,600 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and nearly 103,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
