LONDON (AA) – Michael Gambon, the revered British actor known for his iconic portrayal of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series, passed away at the age of 82.

His family confirmed on Thursday he peacefully breathed his last in a hospital after battling pneumonia.

Michael Gambon's career spanned decades and was marked by a diverse range of roles that showcased his extraordinary talent.

His portrayal of Professor Dumbledore, the wise and enigmatic headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, endeared him to millions of fans worldwide.

He brought depth and gravitas to the character, seamlessly taking over the role from the late Richard Harris after the second film in the franchise.

Aside from his work in the magical world of Harry Potter, Gambon's filmography was a testament to his versatility as an actor.

He lent his voice to the character of Franklin Bean in Wes Anderson's "Fantastic Mr. Fox," adding his distinctive charm to the animated adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic book.

Gambon appeared in many productions of works by William Shakespeare such as Othello, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Coriolanus.
