BEIRUT (AA) - Hezbollah mourned another fighter Friday who was killed in fighting with the Israeli army in the Lebanese southern border areas.

A statement by the Lebanese group identified the fighter as Mohammad Ali Fayyad from the town of Ansar in southern Lebanon.

It did not specify what mission the fighter was engaged in when he was targeted but said he was killed "on the road to Jerusalem," in reference to Hezbollah’s fight in support of Palestinian resistance facing Israel’s devastating onslaught in Gaza.

The death toll of Hezbollah fighters killed by the Israeli forces since Oct. 8 is now at 185, according to previous statements by the group.

Tension between the Israeli army and Hezbollah on Friday saw an unprecedented escalation as the group claimed to have targeted the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan for the first time with Katyusha rockets.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of weapons fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, on Oct. 7.
