Hezbollah member killed in Israeli attack in southern Lebanon

Israeli media reports airstrike on Hezbollah cell on outskirts of Aitaroun

JERUSALEM (AA) - Hezbollah announced early Monday that one of its members was killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon.

The group announced that the member hailed from the village of Aynata, without providing further information, according to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV,

Israeli warplanes conducted an airstrike on the outskirts of the village of Aitaroun in southern Lebanon, the local Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported earlier in the day.

It said the attack targeted a Hezbollah cell near the Lebanese-Israeli border in addition to outposts and watchtowers used by the group, according to a spokesperson for the Israeli army.

Earlier Sunday, the Israeli military announced the targeting of two Hezbollah cells on the Lebanese border, according to an official statement.

It said Hezbollah cells near the Har Dov and Metula areas were targeted, adding the cell near Metula was believed to be preparing to launch anti-tank missiles into Israeli territory, while the cell near Mount Dov aimed to launch rockets. Both cells were eliminated before they had a chance to conduct their operations.

For more than two weeks, the Israeli-Lebanese border has witnessed an intermittent exchange of fire between the Israeli army on one side and Hezbollah and Palestinian groups on the other, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides.
